A Heartfelt Journey Through Alopecia: You Are Not Alone

Clumps of hair wrapped around a comb

Hair loss can feel overwhelming and personal—especially when it happens suddenly and without explanation.

Hair is more than just part of our appearance—it’s deeply tied to our identity. Losing it, especially suddenly, can be devastating. If you’re experiencing hair loss, we want you to know something important: you are not alone.

Over the past few years, awareness around alopecia areata—an autoimmune condition that causes patchy or total hair loss—has grown. More people are speaking up, seeking answers, and sharing what’s worked for them. And today, we’re honored to share one of those stories from right here at Rejuvenation Spa.

A Personal Story from One of Our Owners

After completing chemotherapy, Tina, one of Rejuvenation Spa’s owners was overjoyed to see her hair beginning to grow back—only to lose it all again a month later. This time, it wasn’t the treatment—it was alopecia.

She tried nearly everything:

  • Topical serums
  • Hair growth oils and supplements
  • Steroid injections
  • Specialized shampoos and conditioners

Nothing brought lasting or significant regrowth. It was only after combining a few targeted therapies—and staying committed over time—that she began to see a real change.

What Helped Her Regrow Her Hair

  • Red Light Therapy (LLLT)
  • Olumiant (a JAK inhibitor)
  • Ongoing steroid injections

* Important Note: Everyone’s hair loss journey is unique. These treatments worked for her—but they may not work for everyone. It’s essential to work closely with your healthcare provider and give yourself grace along the way.

Red Light Therapy: Safe, Gentle, and Proven Helpful for Some

One of the most empowering tools in her journey was red light therapy, also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT). She used the Theradome EVO LH40, an FDA-cleared laser helmet designed to improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and reactivate dormant hair follicles.

“It felt like the first thing I could do—something I could control, something that gave me hope when everything else felt uncertain.” – Rejuvenation Spa Owner

Red Light Therapy: How to Get Started

If you’re considering red light therapy, here’s what to know:

    • Choose a quality device
      • We recommend selecting an FDA-cleared device such as:
          • Theradome EVO LH40
          • Capillus PRO
        • iRestore Laser Hair Growth System

  • Use it consistently
    • Start with 20-minute sessions, 3 times per week. As your scalp adjusts and you begin to see progress, you can increase usage daily.
  • Keep your scalp clean and product-free
    • For best results, use red light therapy on clean, dry hair with no styling products, oils, or buildup.
  • Be patient
    • Hair regrowth takes time. Many people see changes within 3–4 months, with more noticeable results after 6–12 months.
  • Track your progress
    • Take monthly photos in the same lighting to see small changes more clearly. It can help keep you motivated and hopeful.

Olumiant and Steroid Injections

Alongside red-light therapy, she began a prescription treatment called Olumiant (baricitinib), a JAK inhibitor originally developed to treat rheumatoid arthritis. In clinical studies, it has shown promising results for alopecia areata by helping stop the autoimmune attack on hair follicles.

*Important: If you are taking estrogen blockers, Olumiant may not be effective. Be sure to consult your provider about possible interactions.

She also continued with corticosteroid injections, which didn’t lead to regrowth on their own, but became more effective when used as part of a layered approach.

Healing Is Not Linear—But You’re Not Alone

There’s no universal solution when it comes to alopecia. The emotional impact can be just as difficult as the physical symptoms. But what our owner’s story shows is that there is hope—even if it takes time, patience, and persistence.

“I didn’t know if my hair would ever come back. But I kept going. I kept trying. And slowly, it did.”
